Dr. Ellenberger received her B.S. in 1979 and her Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry in 1986 from the Oregon Graduate Institute, part of the Oregon Health and Science University. Her dissertation work involved stereoselective synthesis of the deoxyamino sugars daunosamine, vancosamine and ristosamine which are a portion of anthracycline antibiotic anticancer drugs. She has worked in industry as a pharmaceutical chemist and has taught General Chemistry at Utah Valley State College in Orem, Utah and at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma.
