Dr. Echegoyen received her B.S. (1982) and her Ph.D. in physical chemistry (1990) from the University of Miami, Florida. Her dissertation work involved electrochemically enhanced transport across artificial membranes and preparation and characterization of novel supramolecular assemblies using crown-ether derivatives. She taught General Science at Belen Jesuit Prep. School in Miami until 1997. After a year abroad, she returned to do post-doctoral work at the University of Miami on electrochemistry of fullerenes. She also taught General Chemistry in 2000-2001 at the University of Miami.
Dr Echegoyen is coordinator of the NSF-REU funded Summer Undergraduate Research Program, SURP. This program has provided research opportunities in chemistry for rising juniors and seniors from across the country since 1992.
