Welcome to the Brumaghim Group


The Brumaghim research group examines oxidative DNA damage and how antioxidants can prevent this damage. Because metal ions such as iron and copper are a primary source of damaging radical species, we focus primarily on the interactions of these metal ions with antioxidant molecules as well as the interactions between antioxdants and DNA. To determine the mechanisms for DNA damage and antioxidant activity, we use a variety of chemical and biochemical techniques and span the range of inorganic, organic, analytical, and biochemistry.
